“Brand is just a perception, and perception will match reality over time. Sometimes it will be ahead, other times it will be behind. But brand is simply a collective impression some have about a product.” Elon Musk
Now all of us know who Elon Musk is. He is a visionary who aims really high, as high as 225 Million kilometers – to Mars. Through the SpaceX Project, he and his team have been working day in day out to be able to make this so called “impossible task” a reality. Has any of us given a moment to think what would happen if mankind were to really shift to Mars and build habitable colony there? Imagine, all that we as the Human race would have to go through. Right from establishing human colonies over Mars to marketing their product, which is for sure a gigantic task. To add a little humor to it – one thing which strikes the most is, how would the multi-billion dollar organizations which exist today market themselves?
How would they do it?
Let’s consider a scenario wherein in the year 2050 we happen to send huge machines to Mars to terraform it into a new habitable planet. Terraforming would involve Tractors to make the land suitable enough for farming so as to sustain its own crops, for which we would require the tractors from our home grown Mahindra & Mahindra, who may probably come up with a catch line like “The Red Tractor for the Red Planet” or they would probably come up with the #Tag like #RedForRed. Coincidentally this goes really well with their brand as Mars has always been deemed as the red planet.
Once we have the fertile soil to ourselves we would need certain infrastructure that could sustain the humans. Now, from what we have studied or researched about Mars, there are winds that blow at tremendous speed at the surface and anything that is not strong enough has a high likelihood to be blown away. Thus, we would require something like Ambuja Cement that would be concrete enough to be able to sustain the strong winds. So, how Ambuja Cement would market themselves? Probably with a tag-line like “Dharti se lekar Mangal tak, har nirmaan ki jaan”.
Now there are a lot such brands and scenarios which come to mind, but we would take some time to brew a few stories and taglines around the same. Stay tuned to know more as to how this scenario for the other brands turn out to be.
